Nevada Cancer Institute Celebrates Great American Smokeout

Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) encourages smokers to take part in the Great American Smokeout and quit smoking for one day, helping people commit to making a long-term plan to quit smoking for good.
NVCI will have an educational booth at the Institute at One Breakthrough Way, from 8 am to noon on Thursday, Nov. 20. Here smokers who want to quit can learn about resources available through NVCI, including free smoking cessation classes, a "Heavy Quitters" support group and how quitting now can extend a smoker's life and improve their overall health.
"For those people looking for motivation to stop using tobacco products, this is the perfect opportunity," said Erin West, Outreach and Education special projects coordinator. "We are eager to help them in their effort to get healthier."
This is the American Cancer Society’s 33rd Great American Smokeout. The Great American Smokeout was inaugurated in 1976 to inspire and encourage smokers to quit for one day. Now, 44.2 percent of the 45.3 million Americans who smoke have attempted to quit for at least one day in the past year, and the Great American Smokeout remains a great opportunity for people to start a long-term plan to quit smoking forever.
